College Update
Life after graduation is definitely a lot different, but pretty great at the same time. You are kind of forced to grow up a lot, but that has been a really good thing. I'm a full time college student, but perks of college: I only go to school two days a week. My schedule is a whole lot different than it ever was in high school. I spend a lot of time working. I work at a Fitness Center, and I really love it. I am definitely in my element with this job. I also really love not having to ask my parents for money most of the time. I spend way more time doing homework than I ever did in high school, and I surprisingly don't mind at all. I've had to figure out how to study in college because that is something I didn't do often in high school, but I'm still working on that one. Most of my teachers are extremely casual about everything. College professors just kind of suggest you come to class (you probably should), and most of them don't know our names at all. The best days are when class gets cancelled so I end up with an hour and a half unexpected lunch break, or an excuse to go home early, or sleep in. It's also pretty great to show up on test day to find brownies or candy being passed out simply because it is test day. It's pretty weird having classes with people you just knew from Instagram, but I've met some really great people. Some of my closest friends have become the other Presidential Host students aka the P-host. We spend hours working events together or keeping the group message/group snapchat going. My favorite class is psychology. It is definitely a class that will make you think of things you have never thought about before, and Mr. Woodall is a really great teacher full of stories to keep class interesting.
Things here were pretty different for a while. Not going back to high school was really weird in the beginning because for the first time ever I wasn't doing something I had always done. I had gotten up and went to school almost everyday since I was 4, and for the first time ever my brother took first day of school pictures without me. It's hard to feel like I should still be there, or miss it, when it isn't my class in school anymore. A few of my close friends stayed at Northeast too, but a lot of them left. It's hard when the people you were always so close with, the ones that were always a 5 minute drive away, or the ones you've had classes with since kindergarten, are now three to six hours away. Being so separated has been a major adjustment. Thankfully they are all still only a phone call away and they do occasionally come home. Thanks to University fall breaks, three of my friends came home and surprised me at work tonight, and of course, it made my day. Things feel a lot more normal when we are all reunited. Some of the ones of us that did stay have gotten a lot closer. I've also become good friends with a couple of people I went to school with but was not really close with in high school, so that has been great.
While I do spend most of my time working, or working on school, I stay busy with a lot of other things too. This month that being lots of weddings, halloween parties, and college football. I mentioned in my last post that I hadn't yet decided on a major but after job shadowing someone I'm close to, I think I have finally decided on a major that I could do a lot with. I plan to transfer to Auburn after Northeast and major in Communication Disorders, then get my masters from Auburn in Speech Pathology. I am extremely thankful for all of the advice and guidance that I have been given. I'm also very thankful for my scholarship and all of the great opportunities that have came with it.
